DEADLINE: Friday, April 27, 2018.
The Brooklyn Arts Council and curator Desiree Gordon invite artists of all genres to submit work for consideration for the exhibition, Nou La--We Reach! Slated to open in June 2018, Nou La offers artists who are living any of the myriad Caribtropolis experiences in Brooklyn the opportunity to help us innovate frameworks for viewing the Caribbean diaspora. Participating artists will lift a mask of feathers and beads to reveal sensibilities, histories, and imaginations that are transnational, transcultural, translocal, translingual, trangressive, transensual and, indeed, transcendent.
Nou La--We Reach!
The Journeys and Dreams of Brooklyn's Caribtropolis
Nou La - We Reach! is an interactive exhibition narrating the story of the Caribbean presence in Brooklyn. The exhibition will lay a platform for contemplation and immersion into the Caribbean migrations that have profoundly impacted Brooklyn’s culture. Launching at the Wyckoff House Museum in June 2018, Nou La pivots on notions of innovation and preservation, migration and displacement, resisting and becoming, and more.
Featuring the work of artists from Brownsville and East Flatbush and beyond and drawing upon the voices of the community, we invite you to be a part of this cultural collaboration as we reflect on the Brooklyn Caribtropolis of yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
